hungry taichung

After all the dropbox-ing for 3 days with boon, I managed to get all the photos she took at Taiwan, and so that means I need to do some blogging about my 11-day trip to Taiwan.

As with all my travel adventures, like the one to Bintan when I forgot my luggage and left it at home, this time round, I forgot to renew my passport. And that, I only found out when my Father was just asking really casually, "eh, 你的passport过期了没有?" on Friday night at 10:30pm. I was leaving for Taiwan on Monday at 10:15am. Good game. So the mad rush to ICA in the morning at 8:15am on Saturday, and then 7:15am with my luggage all set in the Father's car on Monday. I was the 8th in queue, and the first to emerge from the building with a passport in hand at 8:10am. I love the ICA.

That's me at the Singapore airport, with my piping hot new passport and the invalid one.

Fast forward 6 hours later, we reached the Taoyuan airport. Took a hari-raya bus to the HSR station, HSR-ed to Taichung, then a free shuttle bus to the Fengjia night market area! Major culture shock!
We couldn't find our awesome Tomato Rooms and didn't know how to cross those major messy crammed up roads. Plus we had our fat ass luggages for the next 11 days of shopping madness. Finally, after 1 million stares from the locals, and one kind policeman, we finally found Tomato and haha! We were so happy! Nua-ed around for a bit and went shopping at Fengjia! Bought some mad things, as usual. I like the sticker man. He had so much TLC in printing those stickers. So much that I went back the next day for more!

Day 2. Not knowing that Taiwan starts their day quite late in the afternoon, we went out quite early, with nothing opened. Went 一中街, couldn't find a decent place to eat. Ended up eating lousy Macs and drank bubble tea! Chanced upon a really nice shop called Galoop, where I spent a lot of my fortune on. Went to the oldest bookstore in Taiwan, found a famous 太阳饼店. Bought so much stuff and ended up in Fengjia again because that's all there is in Taichung! But oh man! We bought so much things that my luggage was already quite full!

Decided that we have had enough of street food though all we ate was the chicken cutlet, some disgusting prawn thing and another cheesy chicken cutlet yesterday, we decided to go find a place where we can sit down and have a good dinner! We ended up at this small weird shop, where I had some steamboat thing 'cause the whole shop was eating it and boon had baked rice. Oh man. Terror begins. They served toast with jam and some real bad red tea. Yikes! Then, I tried to crack an egg into my steamboat but most of it ended up on the floor because I overestimated the strength of their egg shell! It's less hardy than the usual egg we have, okay! Luckily, we wanted to empty our trash and couldn't find a bin before entering the shop, we had a bag of trash with us. So Boon suggested clearing the mess up and throwing into our bag of trash. So we did. Then, when the veg was too overwhelming, I threw some stuff in there too. Soon, some weird dessert with pearls came and it was so mega sweet so we decided to leave the place, pretending the dessert's good, with both the dessert and trash bag in hand. I think we were acting so weird! When we finally found the bin, we were so confused! There's a recycling bin, and the normal bin. Because there was a man there, we got so scared so we just threw the whole damn thing into one of the bins and walked away. Don't think we got it right 'cause when we turned back to peep at him, he was digging our trash and sorting it!

The bad dinner and my sheepish face

So much for Taiwan and good food. We really couldn't find any! But still decided to give them another chance and decided to queue up 大腸包小腸 from a famous shop. Because it looked quite gross with a lot of veg in it, we decided to taobao back to the hotel so we could dig out the bad stuff. Oh man, we were so glad we did 'cause there was so much bad stuff in there and the whole thing was just disgusting. And that's Day 1 and 2 at Taichung.

I was getting really hungry.

//i have had enough of world cup
i know it's only day 1
