kaohsiung, not gaoxiong

Okayy since I'm still so jobless, let me continue with my travel log for Taiwan!

Kaohsiung, kaohsiung, kaohsiung.
People say it's a boring place but I like it. I like it for the artsy things that are placed randomly along the streets, in the train stations, outside shopping malls and ughh, along the Love River as well. I like it also because we stayed in the 85 building that is so near the train station, with a good bubble tea store and awesome Japanese restaurant just across the road. And the most important: I like it because they have the best Ruifeng night market, which sells the best muahchee in the entire world, and the best shopping Sanduo district, which sells my favourite hua-ma keychains and pins.

Kaohsiung Day 1.

Left our Tomato Rooms with a grouchy face. Took the awesome HSR for the 2nd time. Saw the cutest mrt coin token by the kaohsiung mrt (Okay I'm not sure if they are called the mrt actually). Checked into the 85 building place and found out we were 1 day early at Kaohsiung. Ooops! My bad. Messed up the dates but thank goodness the people were nice and so everything was fine eventually. Drank good bubble tea at 50嵐 but ate bad food for the 3rd consecutive day. Went to Raohe night market and was so overwhelmed by the Chinese tourists. So we left within 30 minutes to an amazing shopping place called Sanduo business district. I love hua-ma.

Kaohsiung Day 2.
Decided that there's nothing much to do in Kaohsiung, we negotiated with the minsu guys and they let us do a refund for 1 day and even helped us book a fantastic place (we found out later) in Taipei. LOVE THEM REALLY!! They also recommended a night market that's the best in the entire world! LOVE THEM EVEN MORE, SRSLY!! After one million thank yous, we found an awesome Japanese restaurant, FINALLY, just across the road! That was like the best meal ever in 4 days. Especially the red tea jelly!! Found a few colourful fish in front of the shopping mall at the mrt station and camwhored there! This is my favourite place in the whole of Taiwan for now. Haha! Went to Sogo and found the cutest Shinkansen container and the auntie who was selling it was so nice. She told us to go visit her the next time we go Taiwan. How touching!
Next up was Love River. Actually we took the train to the Takou British Consulate when we wanted to go to the Love River. Don't ask me why. Think we were dreaming. So we took a bus to the supposedly nicest river with the best view of the city. On the way, on the bus, we were scolded by the gangster ah-pek with a bloody mouth 'cause he was chewing the betel nut thing. He said we have no manners just because we sat on the Senior Citizens' seat accidentally. Actually we were trying to sit close to the bus driver so he can tell us where to alight. Okay no need to explain actually but ughh I was so affected by that crazy man. But not to forget the nice auntie who tried to defend us but ended up quarreling with that mad man too. You go, auntie! Finally at the Love River, we saw nothing but a primary school, many dogs and Chinese tourists. It wasn't the best view but okay, I quite like the heart-shaped monument thing now.
After many grumblings over the not-that-nice view, we decided to go back to Takou to buy some dorayaki. On the way, we saw a post office and so decided to mail a postcard home. Used their gross starchy glue and was being ushered out by the Post Office Head, a very nice lady who oozes motherly vibes. HAHA! Took a train back to the wonderful place and was just in time for the sunset at the famous bay downstairs the consulate since there were even more tourists there. Climbed one million flights of stairs up to the consulate, sent another postcard 'cause they have some really cool chops/stamps and visited a weird museum. Found out the dorayaki is sold out, heard some lizard noises and decided to get outta that place to Ruifeng Night Market! It's the most crowded place ever. The kind of crowd you see after the fireworks display every new year. Wasn't really used to the crowd until we bought this to-die-for MUAH CHEE and we were back the next day! MUAH CHEE, people!!

Kaohsiung Day 3.
Headed over to the largest mall. It's called Dream Mall. They have a shuttle bus from the MRT station and the shuttle bus driver was sucha nice, smiley, gentle man. Boon and I liked him a lot! HAHA! Dream Mall was actually quite boring but then we didn't have anything to do until the night market is open so we walked around, book a lot of books for my sister and when it was time, RUIFENG!! ahahah!! On the way back, we bought HSR tickets for taipei the next day from 7-11. And oh man! The lady was really loud and fierce! She declared our i/c numbers, train number, time and date to the entire shop. CRAZY WOMAN. Plus, she cheated our stickers for this free gift thing.
